- The Winding: Seems like you gotta wind ’em up, or some of ’em wind themselves if you move your arm around a lot. They call that “perpetual motion,” which sounds like somethin’ outta a science fiction movie to me. But I guess it just means the watch keeps runnin’ as long as you’re movin’ around.
- The Energy: There’s a spring inside, like in them old clocks, that stores up the energy. And this half-moon shaped thing inside keeps the spring wound up tight all the time so the watch keeps working.
- The Little Bits: They got these tiny little screws and wheels and such, all made outta fancy stuff like gold and that “glucydur” thing. Sounds expensive! They even got these little gold weights they screw in and out to make it run just right. Must take good eyes and steady hands to put all that together. And that blue spring they call “parachrom bleu”, sounds real fancy.
Are They Worth the Money?
Now, that’s the million-dollar question, ain’t it? Folks say a Rolex is an investment, somethin’ you can pass down to your grandkids. And I guess that’s true, if you got the money to spare. But for me, a good old Timex does the job just fine. Tells the time, and that’s all I need.
How to Spot a Real One?
I hear tell there’s a lot of fake Rolexes out there, so you gotta be careful. Most of them real ones don’t have nothin’ fancy on the back, just plain metal. Ain’t no pictures or words or see-through windows. Though I guess some real old ones from way back when might be different.

Anyways, whether you like ’em or not, Rolex is a big name. They say they’re the best selling ones in the world, all them rich folks wearin’ ‘em. Guess that means somethin’, though I can’t say I understand why. It’s just a watch, right? But maybe there’s more to it than that. Maybe it’s about craftsmanship, about tradition, about havin’ somethin’ fancy on your wrist. I dunno. Like I said, I’m just a simple gal.
