Okay, so, I’ve always been a huge fan of the Cinderella story, you know, the whole rags-to-riches, fairy godmother, and glass slipper vibe. But the dress! Oh, the dress has always been the main attraction for me. So, I decided to make my own Cinderella dress. I mean, who hasn’t dreamt of twirling around in that iconic gown?

First, I gathered some pictures of Cinderella’s dress. It’s like a silvery-blue color, with puff sleeves and a super full skirt. Also, I did notice that, even though most of the stuff you see nowadays shows her dress as blue, the original is more of a silver color, and that makes sense to me. Anyway, I needed to find some fabric that would work, and the color had to be just right.

Then I started hunting for fabric. I went to like a million fabric stores, searching for that perfect shade of silvery-blue. It was tougher than I thought! I finally found this gorgeous, shimmery material that was pretty close. It wasn’t cheap, but I was committed! I also picked up some tulle for the underskirt to give it that princess poof.

Next up, the pattern. Let me tell you, finding a pattern for a ball gown isn’t easy. I ended up getting a basic bodice pattern and a full skirt pattern and kind of mashed them together. Then, I made a mock-up out of some cheap fabric to make sure everything fit right. There was a lot of pinning and adjusting, and I definitely poked myself with needles a few times!

Once I was happy with the fit, it was time to cut into the real fabric. This was the scariest part! I carefully laid out the pattern, pinned it down, and cut out each piece. It was quite the workout since I used a lot of fabric to make the skirt as full as possible.

Sewing was a whole other adventure. I dusted off my old sewing machine, which I hadn’t used in ages, and got to work. Putting together the bodice was tricky, but I managed. Then came the skirt, which was basically miles of fabric that I had to gather and sew. It took forever, and my back was killing me, but I pushed through.

After what felt like an eternity, I finally finished sewing the main part of the dress. But it was missing something. It needed that extra sparkle. I found some silver ribbon and added it to the waistline and the sleeves. I also added some sparkly appliques to the bodice to give it that extra fairy godmother touch. Also, I bought some crystal tiara and silver headband.

Finally, the moment of truth! I tried on the dress, and it was… magical. I felt like a princess! It was a lot of work, and I had many challenges along the way, but it was totally worth it. Now, I just need to find a ball to wear it to! Or maybe I’ll just twirl around my living room. Who knows?
