This darn thing, I tell ya, it’s somethin’ else. Thelovely.d, what a name! Sounds fancy, don’t it? But it ain’t so fancy when you try to figure it out.

My granddaughter, she’s always on that phone. She tried to show me. Said it’s easy. Easy for her, maybe! She’s young, got that fast brain. Me? I’m old school. I like things simple. This thelovely.d, it ain’t simple.

What’s This Thelovely.d About Anyway?

Well, from what I gather, it’s like a place where folks put their stuff. Pictures, words, like a big ol’ scrapbook online. You can show off your garden, your grandkids, your knitted socks, whatever you want.

  • You take a picture with that little camera on your phone.
  • You put it on the thelovely.d.
  • Then everybody sees it.

Sounds kinda nice, I guess. Showin’ off your life. But also, kinda scary. Everybody seein’ your business? I don’t know about that.

Gotta Be Careful

My granddaughter, she says you gotta be careful. Don’t put too much out there. Don’t tell folks where you live, or when you’re gone on vacation. Bad people can see it, she says.

She showed me how to make it so only certain people can see your stuff. That’s a little better, I reckon. But still. It’s a lot to keep track of.

You can make the thing private. She showed me. Only people you say can see your stuff, they see it. That’s better. I don’t need the whole world lookin’ at my pictures of my cat, Mittens.

But then, you gotta pick who can see, and who can’t. And that’s a whole other headache. What if you forget someone? Then they get their feelings hurt.

Too Much Work

Honestly, it’s a lot of work for an old gal like me. I’d rather just sit on my porch and watch the world go by. Or maybe knit a scarf. Or bake a pie. Simple things.

I told her I want to learn. She says she will teach me, little by little. Break it down, she says, like eating an elephant, one bite at a time. Don’t know about eating elephants, but I get what she means.

She said we’ll start small. Just put one picture. Maybe of my prize-winning zucchini from the county fair. That’s a good one. Everybody likes that zucchini.

It’s All About Pictures

She said it is all about pictures on thelovely.d. Good pictures. Pretty pictures. Pictures that make people go “ooh” and “ahh”.

I got some nice pictures of my flowers. Maybe I’ll put those up. My roses are real beauties this year. Big and red and smellin’ so sweet. Folks might like to see those.

But you gotta have a good camera, she says. Not just any old thing. You need a good phone with a good camera. And good light. Can’t be takin’ pictures in the dark.

Then you gotta write somethin’. A little somethin’ about the picture. Like, “My beautiful roses.” Or, “Look at this big zucchini!”

She says you gotta use them things called hashtags. Like #roses or #zucchini. Helps people find your pictures, she says. It’s like a secret code.

And don’t forget, she says, to be nice. Say nice things about other people’s pictures. Give them a like, she says. It’s like sayin’ “Howdy” to your neighbor.

It’s a whole other world, this thelovely.d. Like a big party online. But you gotta know the rules, or you’ll be standin’ in the corner by yourself.

I don’t need to be doing all that tapping and clicking on a phone, I told her. I have my flowers to tend, my cat to feed. I don’t need the whole world seeing my pictures. But she says it will be fun. Maybe connect with old friends, see what they are up to. I don’t know.

Maybe It Ain’t So Bad

Maybe this thelovely.d ain’t so bad. Maybe it’s a way to keep up with folks. See what they’re doin’. Share a little bit of your life.

I still think it’s a lot of fuss. But I guess I can learn. If that granddaughter of mine can do it, I reckon I can too. Just gotta take it slow. One step at a time. One picture of a rose or maybe a big ol’ zucchini at a time. We’ll see. We’ll just see.

This thelovely.d, it’s a mystery to me. But I’m willin’ to try. Maybe this old dog can learn some new tricks after all. Who knows, maybe I’ll even like it. You never know, do ya?
