So, I started this little project because I had a bunch of Kate Spade purses lying around. I mean, they were cute and all, but I just didn’t use them anymore. Figured I could make a few bucks and clear out some closet space at the same time. Win-win, right?

First Thing First

First things first, I needed to figure out where the heck to even sell these things. I’ve sold clothes on Poshmark before, but I wasn’t sure if that was the right place for, like, nicer stuff. You know?

I did some digging, asked around a bit, and it seemed like there were a few decent options. I decided to try a couple of different places to see what worked best.

Experimenting with Platforms

  • Poshmark: Like I said, I’d used this before. It was pretty easy to list the purses, snap some pictures, write up a little description. It was user-friendly but the shipping fee was a bit too high. I did end up selling one purse on here, but it took a while.
  • The RealReal: This one seemed a bit more “upscale,” you know? They’re all about luxury consignment. I had to send my purses to them, and they authenticated them, photographed them, the whole nine yards. Felt a bit more legit, but they also take a bigger cut of the sale. It took a few days but the selling price is way higher.
  • Local Consignment Shops: I also popped into a couple of local consignment shops near me. Just wanted to see what they offered. One place was a no-go, they weren’t taking any more bags. But the other one was interested! I had to take my items there, wait for a long time, and then they’d give me a price for them. I ended up leaving a couple of purses with them to see what happens.

The Results Are In!

After a few weeks, I’ve had some mixed results. Poshmark was okay, but slow. The RealReal seemed promising, but the fees are pretty high, but the selling price is also high. Still waiting to hear back from the local consignment shop. Honestly, it’s a bit of a waiting game.

So, what did I learn from all of this? Well, it definitely takes a bit of effort to sell these things. It’s not just a quick list-it-and-forget-it kind of deal. You gotta put in the work to take good pictures, write good descriptions, and research the best platform for your stuff. I spent a lot of time on packaging and sending the packages, which was a nightmare.

If you’ve got some Kate Spade purses you’re looking to sell, I’d say it’s worth a shot! Just be prepared to put in a little time and effort. And don’t expect to get rich overnight. But hey, extra cash and a less cluttered closet? I’ll take it!
