Today I was messing around with some woodworking stuff, and I had this idea to make a chair. But not just any chair, I wanted to make a chair that looked like a face. Yeah, you heard that right, a chair face. So, I grabbed my tools and got to work.
First, I sketched out a rough design on a piece of paper. It wasn’t anything fancy, just a basic idea of what I wanted it to look like. I pictured two big circles for the eyes, a long plank for the nose, and a curved piece for the mouth. Simple enough, right?
Then, I went to my wood pile and picked out some pieces that I thought would work. I found a couple of wide boards for the eyes, a nice long plank that was perfect for the nose, and a few scrap pieces that I could shape into a mouth.
I started with the eyes. I used my jigsaw to cut out two big circles. They weren’t perfect, but they were close enough. I sanded down the edges to make them smooth and then set them aside.

Next, I worked on the nose. I took that long plank and trimmed it down a bit to make it the right length. Then I sanded it down, paying extra attention to the edges to make them nice and smooth. The nose was the easiest part, honestly.
The mouth was a bit trickier. I took those scrap pieces and started shaping them with my chisel. I wanted a nice, curved smile, so I carved away at the wood until I got the shape I wanted. It took some time, but I finally got it right.

Once I had all the pieces, I started assembling them. I used wood glue and some screws to attach the eyes and nose to a larger backboard. Then I added the mouth underneath. It was starting to look like a face!
Finally, I added the seat and legs. I used some sturdy planks for the seat and attached four legs to the bottom. I made sure everything was secure and stable. And there it was, my chair face!
Finishing Touches
I gave the whole thing a good sanding to make sure there were no rough edges. Then I decided to paint it. I used some bright colors to make it really stand out. I painted the eyes blue, the nose yellow, and the mouth red. It looked awesome!
It’s not the most comfortable chair in the world, but it’s definitely a conversation starter. Everyone who sees it gets a good laugh. And hey, it was a fun project to work on. Who knew a chair could have so much personality?
