Okay, let’s talk about that A. Lange & Söhne Odysseus watch. Man, that thing had been on my radar for a while. I finally decided to pull the trigger and get a pre-owned one, and the whole process was quite the experience.

First off, I started digging around online, just to see what the market was like, you know? Found out these bad boys were holding their value pretty well, started from 80k. Not surprising, given how awesome they are. I browsed through a bunch of different sites, places like “The 1916 Company” and “Chrono24” – they seemed to have a decent selection.

After that I read some reviews and information, found out that the steel Lange Odysseus has been rather stable and in-line with the overall market.

I also checked out some local spots in San Francisco, just to see if I could maybe try one on. There’s this one place that specializes in pre-owned watches. I popped in, and they had a few different A. Lange & Söhne models, including a couple of different collections, like the Lange 1, Zeitwerk, Saxonia, and so on. No Odysseus, though.

Narrowed down my search to a few specific listings I liked. I reached out to the sellers, asked a bunch of questions about the condition, the year of production, original box, you know, all that jazz. One seller seemed really on top of things, they had all the papers, the original box, even threw in a branded brown leather strap. The watch itself was listed as “like new, unworn” from 2021. Seemed like a solid deal.

We went back and forth a bit on the price. I’d seen some Odysseus models ranging from like $45,000 to $52,000 or so, but the general average was around $53,000. This one was right around there, so I felt pretty good about it. Especially considering it was basically brand new. The retail price was about $55,200, so I saved a little bit of money.

Finally, I decided to go for it. We finalized the deal, and I wired the money over.

  • Waited for the watch to arrive.
  • Received the watch.
  • Opened the box.
  • Checked the watch and papers.
  • Wore the watch.
  • Enjoyed the watch.

Let me tell you, seeing it in person, it’s a whole different ball game. The craftsmanship is just insane, and it feels amazing on the wrist. Definitely worth the wait and all the research. Now I just have to decide when and where to show it off first.
