Okay, so, I’ve been on this fragrance journey lately, right? And everyone’s been talking about Baccarat Rouge 540, especially the Extrait version. I kept seeing it pop up in my feed and finally decided to see what the fuss was all about.

Baccarat Rouge 540 Extrait vs. EDP: Which One Is Right for You and How to Choose?

First off, I hit up the Maison Francis Kurkdjian website. They’ve got this whole “olfactory wardrobe” thing going on, trying to match scents to your personality. Sounds kinda fancy, but I was intrigued. I saw that Baccarat Rouge 540 is described as having amber and woody floral notes. Sounds mysterious, right?

So I ordered a sample of both the Eau de Parfum (EDP) and the Extrait. I wanted to see the differences firsthand. When the package arrived, I immediately sprayed the EDP on one wrist and the Extrait on the other.

Initially, they smelled pretty similar. But, as the day went on, I started noticing the differences. The EDP was definitely sweeter and it seemed to project more. I mean, I walked past a few people and they were like, “Wow, you smell amazing!” That was like 8 hours after I applied it. So yeah, the EDP is a beast when it comes to projection. It really leaves a trail behind you.

The Extrait, on the other hand, felt a bit more refined, more subtle, but the difference is not significant. I read somewhere that it has a higher concentration of the fragrance base, up to 40%, which is more than the EDP. Makes sense, because it does feel more intense in a close-up kind of way.

Here’s the thing though, I wore the Extrait to work the next day, and while I could still smell it on myself, no one else really noticed unless they got super close. I was asked one person what does she think about the smell, she said she barely smells it.

Baccarat Rouge 540 Extrait vs. EDP: Which One Is Right for You and How to Choose?

My final thoughts?

  • Projection: EDP wins, hands down. It’s like a fragrance bomb.
  • Longevity: Both are pretty good, Extrait might edge out slightly, but it’s close.
  • Scent Profile: EDP is sweeter, Extrait is more woody and subtle.
  • Overall: It depends on what you’re looking for. If you want to turn heads, go for the EDP. If you prefer something more personal and intimate, the Extrait might be your jam. As for me, I like the way EDP projects the smell.

Anyway, that’s my little experiment with Baccarat Rouge 540 Extrait. It was fun trying them both out and figuring out the nuances. Smell is such a personal thing, you know? What works for one person might not work for another. I still prefer EDP a little bit better even if it’s cheaper. You have to figure it out on your own. But I definitely think everyone should at least try it once.
