Alright, folks, let’s talk about how I got my hands on those Ben & Jerry’s x Nike SB Dunk Low “Chunky Dunky” sneakers. Man, what a ride that was!
So, I heard about these bad boys back in early 2020. These were making the rounds on social media. A collaboration between Ben & Jerry’s and Nike? On a pair of SB Dunks? I knew I had to get them. I started doing my research, you know, looking up all the info I could find. Turns out, these were gonna be a limited release. Of course they were.
I kept my eyes glued to all the sneaker news sites and blogs. Then, on May 16th, Nike finally dropped the official photos. The shoes looked even better than I imagined. They had this crazy design that looked like a Ben & Jerry’s ice cream carton, with blue skies, cows, and green pastures. Just wild! They announced that the shoes would release on May 23rd at select skate shops, and then on May 26th on the SNKRS app. I marked those dates on my calendar, set reminders, alarms, everything. I was on it.
- May 23rd, 2020 – The skate shop release. I called up every skate shop within driving distance, asking if they were gonna have them. Most of them said they were doing raffles or draws. I entered every single one I could find. Some were online, some were in-store, I did them all. I must’ve entered like 20 different raffles. But I just needed one to work.
- May 26th, 2020 – The SNKRS app release. This was the big one. I had the app open on my phone, ready to go. As soon as they dropped, I tried to buy them, but the app was so slow. I thought I was doing something wrong. Everyone was trying to get them at the same time. After like 10 minutes of trying, I finally got through. I couldn’t believe it! I had to check my email and then check it again. I actually got them!
When they finally arrived, I was so pumped. I unboxed them carefully, making sure not to damage anything. Took a bunch of photos, of course. I mean, who wouldn’t? They looked even better in person. The quality was top-notch, and all the little details were amazing. It is like Nike and Ben & Jerry’s really put a lot of thought into these.
I decided to wear them out the next day. I got so many compliments and questions about them. People were asking where I got them, how much they cost, the usual stuff. I felt like a celebrity, haha. I even saw some people taking pictures of my shoes without asking. It was a bit weird, but hey, I get it. These shoes are special.
The Aftermath
After a few days, I started seeing the prices of these shoes online. They were going for crazy amounts! I couldn’t believe how much people were willing to pay for them. I had got them for only $100, right? It made me realize how lucky I was to get them at retail price. They are not even my size either, but they are so cool I have to keep them. I don’t think I’ll ever sell them, though. They’re too special to me. I’ll keep them as a reminder of that crazy time I managed to snag a pair of the most hyped sneakers of the year. Or maybe even the decade.
