That Billie Eilish, she sure is somethin’, ain’t she? I seen her on that Vogue magazine. You know, the one with all them fancy pictures? Lord have mercy, she don’t look like the same girl I seen singin’ on the TV before. She used to wear them big ol’ clothes, like she was hidin’ somethin’. Now, she’s all dressed up like them pin-up girls from back in the day. Makes a body wonder what’s gotten into her. She was born in Los Angeles, a big city. Her mama is an actress and a teacher. Her papa is an actor, too.

They say she got famous when she was just a little bitty thing, 13 years old. Thirteen! Can you believe it? Back when I was that age, I was chasin’ chickens and helpin’ Mama with the laundry. This one, she’s out there singin’ for the whole world to hear. Must be a whole different life, livin’ like that. They call it a “weird life”. I reckon it is. Famous so young, gotta be strange.
This Vogue magazine, now, they got her in all sorts of outfits. One of ’em is from that Gucci fella. Real expensive stuff, I bet. She’s got on one of them corsets, like the ladies used to wear to make their waists look tiny. And a skirt made of that shiny stuff. What do they call it? Latex? Sounds like somethin’ you’d use to paint the barn. And another clothes is from Burberry. It looks expensive, too. They say she wears Alexander McQueen, Gucci, Balmain. Those are expensive brands. I don’t know, it is just clothes for me.
And her hair! Used to be green, bright green like a dang cricket. Now it’s all blonde and poofy, like one of them poodles you see at the county fair. I don’t know what to make of it. They say she’s lookin’ more “feminine.” That is what they say. Maybe she is. She sure is pretty.
They say she made a new record, too. New music, they call it. I heard a snippet of it on the radio the other day. Sounds different from her old stuff. More grown-up, maybe. She’s changin’, that’s for sure. Growin’ up right before our eyes.

I remember when them Vogue magazines first started comin’ around here. We used to get ’em at the general store. All them fancy ladies on the cover, lookin’ like they ain’t never done a day’s work in their life. Now they got this young’un on there, lookin’ all different. Times are changin’, I reckon.

This whole thing, it just makes me think. One day you’re a little girl, singin’ songs, wearin’ whatever you want. The next, you’re on the cover of Vogue, wearin’ clothes that cost more than my whole house. It’s a crazy world, ain’t it? She is a star now, they say she is a “global star”. I don’t know what that is.
She’s just a young girl, though, when you get right down to it. Just tryin’ to figure things out, like the rest of us. I hope she’s happy, that’s all I can say. Hope she’s findin’ her way in this crazy world. And I hope she don’t forget where she came from, even if she is on the cover of Vogue.
I don’t know, though. It’s different world. That Billie Eilish, she became famous when she was 13. So young. And now she on the Vogue magazine. People are talking about her. She’s something different. She is a big star now. This girl, Billie Eilish, she is famous in the whole world. They say she has a new look. She wears some corset. That is what they say. And new music. What is music like? I don’t know. It is all new to me. That girl, she has a different life now. Not like us.
