Man, you won’t believe what I’ve been digging into lately. I got hooked on this rabbit hole about homicides in Florida, and let me tell you, it’s been a wild ride.

It all started when I stumbled upon some recent crime stats. I noticed some data was missing and I thought “Where is 2023 data?”. I found the latest update available was from 2022, released in October 2023. I was just browsing, you know, and this thing about Florida’s crime rate popped up. They say it’s kinda like the national average, sometimes a bit higher, sometimes lower, depends on what kind of crime you’re looking at.
So, I started poking around, trying to get a feel for the numbers. I wanted to see where the worst spots were. Turns out, this place called Lake City has the highest crime rate in Florida. It’s a small city between Jacksonville and Tallahassee, where 12,329 residents live. Can you believe it? 77.59 crimes for every 1,000 people! That’s higher than 98.6% of cities in the whole country.
What I Did
- Read through a bunch of reports – The city with the highest crime rate in Florida is Lake City.
- Compared Florida’s numbers with other states – Florida’s crime rate is often around the national average.
- Looked at what kind of crimes were most common – Larceny was the most pervasive crime in the state.
- Checked out Texas too, just for kicks – the current crime rate in Texas as of 2024 is 4.7 violent crimes per 1,000 Texas citizens.
Then I got curious about what kind of crimes were happening the most. Guess what? It’s larceny, which is basically stealing personal stuff. Apparently, that’s the top crime all over the U.S., not just in Florida.
Honestly, the whole thing’s a bit of a downer, but it’s also super interesting, right? You start with a simple question, and next thing you know, you’re knee-deep in stats and stories. I just wanted to share this with y’all because it’s been on my mind.
It really makes you think about what’s going on out there. I mean, these aren’t just numbers; they’re real people, real lives. Anyway, I’ll probably keep digging into this stuff. It’s kinda addictive, in a weird way. Stay safe out there, folks!
