Okay, so I kept seeing these Veja sneakers popping up all over my Instagram feed. You know how it is, the algorithm starts showing you something, and suddenly, it’s everywhere. Anyway, I finally caved and decided to check them out. Turns out, Veja is this French brand that started in 2004. I’m always interested in this kind of brand, so I decided to give it a try.

First, I found out that the name “Veja” means “look” in Portuguese. Not really relevant, but a fun little fact, I guess. Then I saw that they’re all about using eco-friendly materials. We’re talking organic cotton from Brazil and Peru for the canvas and laces. And get this, they use rubber from the Amazon for the soles. They even use recycled stuff like plastic bottles and polyester. I thought, “Wow, that’s pretty cool.” They really seem to care about the environment and it’s kind of cool to support it through my daily purchase.

So, I went ahead and ordered a pair. I have to wait for a couple of weeks to get it. While waiting, I did a little more digging. Apparently, Veja makes their shoes in Brazil and Portugal, in what they say are “high-standard factories.” Not sure what that means exactly, but I’m choosing to believe it’s a good thing. Then I read that it costs them about 30% more to make their shoes compared to other brands. Why? Because they use fair trade and organic materials. That makes sense, I suppose. It costs more to do things the right way.

Finally, my shoes arrived! They look great, just like they did in the pictures. Put them on, and they’re comfy. No complaints there. I’ve been wearing them around for a few weeks now, and I have to say, I’m pretty happy with my purchase. They’re stylish, comfortable, and I feel good knowing that I’m wearing something that’s a little bit better for the planet.

The Verdict

So, is Veja a good brand? If you’re into the whole eco-friendly, ethical thing, then yeah, I’d say they’re worth checking out. They’re not the cheapest sneakers out there, but I think you’re paying for the quality and the peace of mind. I can confirm that from my own little experiment, and I am happy with it. Also, I’d say they’re pretty good for the fashion side, their design is really good and I’m happy to wear them to different kinds of places.

  • Pros: Eco-friendly, stylish, comfortable, ethically made.
  • Cons: A bit pricey.

All in all, I’d give Veja a thumbs up. They’re a cool brand doing cool things. And who knows, maybe my Instagram feed will start showing me something else cool and eco-friendly now.
