So, I decided to give this whole “preppy core” thing a shot. You know, the classic, kind of polished style? I’ve always kind of liked it, but never really knew how to pull it off.

Preppy Core on a Budget: How to Get the Look for Less?

First, I hit up some thrift stores. I figured I could find some good stuff without, like, breaking the bank, you know? And let me tell you, I scored big time! I found this amazing Lily Pulitzer dress – it usually goes for, like, over 150 bucks, but I got it for 99p! Can you believe it? I also snagged a few cardigans and a tweed blazer that looked practically brand new.

Next, I focused on some basics. I already had some plain button-down shirts and a couple of pairs of chinos, so that was a good start. I picked up a few more in different colors, just to mix things up. I even got some a-line skirts – which is so out of my comfort zone! But they looked pretty cute, not gonna lie.

  • Shopping: Hit thrift stores, found amazing deals.
  • Gathering: Focused on basic items, bought more in different colors.
  • Trying: Wore the clothes, experimented with different combinations.
  • Accessorizing: Added scarves and belts to elevate the outfits.

Then came the fun part – actually wearing the clothes. I started by pairing a simple white button-down with a navy cardigan and some khakis. It felt a little weird at first, but once I added a colorful scarf, it all came together. I even wore that Lily Pulitzer dress to a little get-together, and I got so many compliments! Then I tried a tweed blazer, breton tops and sailor shorts. That was super cute.

I also experimented with different shoes. I usually just wear sneakers, but I dug out some old loafers and even bought a pair of boat shoes. They definitely added to the whole preppy vibe. And you know what? I’m actually starting to really like this style. It’s comfortable, it’s put-together, and it makes me feel kind of… fancy, haha.

Oh, and accessories! I added some simple pearl earrings and a structured tote bag, and it really elevated the whole look. Also, threw on a belt here and there, just to kind of cinch things in and make it look more polished.

Preppy Core on a Budget: How to Get the Look for Less?

It’s still a work in progress, but I’m having fun with it. It’s like discovering a whole new side of myself, you know? Plus, I’m saving a ton of money by not having to buy new clothes all the time since these classic pieces never go out of style.
