Hey everyone, so I’ve been seeing these jelly shoes from The Row popping up everywhere lately, and I finally caved and got a pair. I snapped up the Mara Flats in red. They’re kinda like those old-school fisherman sandals we all wore as kids, but, you know, a lot more expensive.

The Row Jelly Shoes: Are They Worth the Hype or Not?

First off, getting them on was a bit of a struggle. The plastic is pretty stiff. I wore them around the house for a while to break them in, and let me tell you, my feet were not happy. They started to get all sweaty and I could feel blisters forming. It’s not the most comfortable experience, to be honest. Plastic just doesn’t breathe like other materials. And those edges? Ouch. They rubbed against my skin and left some nasty red marks.

I tried wearing them outside for a short walk, thinking maybe they just needed some more time to break in. Nope. Still got sweaty, still got blisters. The sharp edges of the straps and the body of the shoe are not fun on your feet. I ended up with a couple of cuts, which was definitely not the look I was going for. And they made my feet sweat like crazy. There is no air flow at all.

I really wanted to like these shoes. They look cool, and three models were wearing them in The Row’s Summer 2024 show, including a blue version of the Mara Flats. But honestly, the pain just wasn’t worth it. I decided to return them. Maybe they work for some people, but they definitely didn’t work for me.

My final verdict?

  • Look: 10/10 (They really do look great.)
  • Comfort: 1/10 (Seriously painful.)
  • Practicality: 2/10 (Unless you enjoy sweaty, blistered feet, these aren’t for everyday wear.)

So, yeah, that’s my experience with The Row’s jelly shoes. A bit of a letdown, but hey, at least I tried them, right? Has anyone else had a similar experience? Let me know in the comments!
