Okay, so yesterday, I headed out to Trade Winds Marina. I’d heard some good things about this place and was itching to check it out for myself. I packed up my gear, grabbed my buddy, and we hit the road early in the morning.

When we arrived, the first thing that struck me was the location. This marina is nestled right on the shores of Lake Thurmond, which, let me tell you, is a sight for sore eyes. The water was calm, the sun was shining – it was the perfect setting. We parked the car and made our way down to the docks.
The Atmosphere
The vibe at Trade Winds Marina is super chill. Everyone was friendly and seemed genuinely happy to be there. I saw families getting ready for a day on the water, friends laughing and joking, and even a few solo boaters just enjoying the peace and quiet. I immediately felt relaxed and at ease.
We strolled around for a bit, checking out the boats and the facilities. I noticed they have clean bathrooms and water/electricity available, which is always a plus. There’s also a security gate that works off a keyfob, so that made me feel good about leaving my stuff there.
Getting on the Water
- We rented a small boat for the day – nothing fancy, just something to cruise around in.
- The rental process was a breeze. The staff were helpful and got us set up in no time.
- Before we knew it, we were out on the water, soaking up the sun and enjoying the scenery.
We spent the afternoon exploring the lake, finding little coves and just taking it all in. We even dropped anchor at one point and went for a swim. The water was refreshing, and it felt great to cool off after being in the sun all day.
As the day started to wind down, we headed back to the marina. We were both tired but in that good, satisfying way. We returned the boat, grabbed our things, and said our goodbyes to the staff. They were just as friendly on our way out as they were when we arrived.

Overall, I had a fantastic time at Trade Winds Marina. It’s a great spot to relax, enjoy the water, and just get away from it all. It seemed like lots of folks keep their boats there year-round, and I can see why. I’ll definitely be back, maybe even to try out some fishing next time.
