Okay, so I’ve been trying to figure out what to wear with this brown skirt I have. I mean, brown’s a pretty basic color, but I wanted to see what really works. I spent a good chunk of this week just messing around with different combinations in front of the mirror.

First off, I pulled out everything in my closet that I thought might go with it. You know, some of my favorite tops, sweaters, and shoes. I even tried some scarves and belts to see if those could change things up.
Try something
- Tops: I started with tops. A plain white tee, a striped shirt, a purple and dark blue, and even this bright lemon yellow blouse I haven’t worn in ages. Also, I found that silver and gold shirts can also work well.
- Bottoms rule: I followed a simple rule: if the top is tight, go with loose bottoms, and vice versa. Since my skirt is more on the flowy side, I leaned towards tighter tops. It just looks more balanced, you know?
- Sweaters: Then, sweaters. I have this beige one that I thought would look super boring with the brown skirt, but it actually looked pretty neat – kinda like a cozy, autumn vibe. I also tried a bulkier, dark green sweater, which was okay, but not my favorite.
- Shoes: For shoes, I tried on black, green, blue sneakers and some boots. The sneakers were comfy and made the outfit casual. The boots, especially the black ones, dressed it up a bit, which was cool for when I wanted to look a bit more put together.
Real-life test
I wore the brown skirt with the beige sweater and the black boots out to a coffee shop. I felt pretty good in it, comfortable but still like I made an effort. Got a few compliments too, which was nice!
Later in the week, I tried the purple top with the skirt for a dinner with friends. It was definitely bolder, but I liked it. Paired it with the silver shoes, and it felt like a fun, more dressed-up look. I also found that if the skirt is leather mini style, I prefer a loose top.
So, after all this, I’ve got a few go-to outfits with this brown skirt now. It’s way more versatile than I thought it would be. I guess sometimes you just gotta try things on and see what sticks. It’s all about experimenting and finding what makes you feel good, right?
