Well, let me tell ya, this “Watching the Queen’s Gambit” thing, it’s somethin’ else. Folks been talkin’ ’bout it, and I finally got around to seein’ what all the fuss was about. Now, I don’t know nothin’ ’bout chess, not a lick, but this show, it kinda grabs ya.

It’s ’bout this girl, Beth, see? Poor thing, lost her mama early on, ends up in this orphanage. Not the prettiest place, mind you, but it’s where she finds this chess game. And wouldn’t ya know it, she’s a natural! Like she was born holdin’ them little pieces.
- First off, that girl, Anya somethin’-or-other, she’s a real firecracker. Plays that Beth girl like she lived it. Folks say the actors is why this show’s so good, and I reckon they ain’t wrong.
- Then there’s the chess. Now, like I said, I don’t get it, but the way they show it, it’s excitin’! You see them pieces movin’, and you’re on the edge of your seat, wonderin’ what’s gonna happen next.
This Beth girl, she ain’t perfect, though. Got her demons, she does. Drinks too much, takes them pills. But that’s what makes her real, I guess. Shows that even the smartest folks got their troubles. And she’s a girl, in a man’s game, back in the days when girls weren’t supposed to be doin’ such things. But she shows ’em, she does! She beats ’em all.
Some folks say it’s the best thing on that Netflix thingy. I don’t know ’bout that, but it sure kept me entertained. Kept me guessin’, too. And it ain’t just for them chess folks, neither. My neighbor, she don’t know a pawn from a queen, but she loved it just the same.
The show makes you think, you know? ‘Bout life and struggles and findin’ your way. And ’bout how sometimes, the things that hurt you can also make you strong. Beth, she used that chess game to get through some tough times, and that’s somethin’ to admire. The Queen’s Gambit ain’t just some show about chess. It’s a show about a person, a young girl becoming a strong woman. A person fighting for what she wants, even when things are not so good for her.
They say the chess parts is real good, like the folks who know the game, they say it’s right. Not like some shows where they make things up. And that Benny fella, he helps Beth, teaches her some things. Their talk, it’s kinda snappy, you know? Like they know what they’re talkin’ about, even if I don’t.

I heard some folks sayin’ this show is fast-paced. And it is, kinda. Once it gets goin’, it really gets goin’. You could sit down and watch the whole thing in one go, if you had the time. Me, I had to spread it out, what with the chores and all. But every time I sat down to watch some more, I was right back in it.
Now, there’s another show, they call it “Dark” somethin’ or other. Folks say it’s good too, gets real interestin’ ’round the third season. But this “Queen’s Gambit”, it’s good all the way through. Keeps ya hooked from the start.
So, if you’re lookin’ for somethin’ to watch, somethin’ different, give this “Queen’s Gambit” a try. You might just like it, even if you don’t know a thing ’bout chess. It’s got a little bit of everything: drama, excitement, and a girl who ain’t afraid to take on the world. And ain’t that somethin’ we all like to see?
And it’s more than just seein’ who wins. It’s seein’ how they win, and how they lose, and how they pick themselves up again. It’s got depth, they say. Deep sequences they call it, more than just the quick wins, like they really thought about how this chess thing works. That’s why people like it so much, I reckon. And I’d say they are correct.
So, there you have it. My two cents on this “Watching the Queen’s Gambit” business. It’s a good show, plain and simple. Worth watchin’, even for an old lady like me who don’t know nothin’ ’bout chess.
