You know, that Saks light show, I hear people talk about it all the time. They say it’s somethin’ else. But that thing, what time is it? I ain’t never seen it myself. Some folks say it’s real pretty, all them lights flashin’ and such.
I heard it’s at that fancy store, Saks Fifth Avenue, in New York. Big place, that is. I reckon it’s up there on, what’s that street? Fifth Avenue, yeah. They say it happens every year, ’round Christmas time. But ain’t no show in 2024, I heard. Too much money, I guess. All them LED lights, must cost a fortune!
They used to do it every ten minutes, like clockwork. I think it started at 5 o’clock. 5pm to 11pm, that’s what someone told me. And it would go on till 11 at night. That’s a long time for lights to be flashin’. My, my, that’s a lot of lights, you know. Must be a sight to see.
- 5pm start time, I reckon that’s when it got dark.
- 11pm end time, that’s late for an old lady like me!
- Every 10 minutes, like a cuckoo clock, but with lights.
I heard that one fella say the best place to see it is from that Rockefeller Center. I think that’s where they got that big Christmas tree, right? Big tree, big lights, big city! New York, it’s a whole other world up there.
They say that light show, it ain’t just lights. It’s got music, too. Sounds like a real hootenanny. Each show, they say, is about three or four minutes long. That’s not too long, I reckon. Just enough time to get a good look. They used to do it from late November all the way to early January. That’s a good long time for folks to see it.
Someone was sayin’ they had, oh, I don’t know, a whole mess of lights. More than 300,000, they said! Can you imagine? 300,000 LED lights! That’s more lights than I got hairs on my head! They play that music, all them lights dancin’ around. Must be somethin’, I tell ya.
They started it up on November 20th last year, I heard. That’s when they had that big reveal, all fancy and such. Folks were excited, I’m sure. That Saks light show, it’s a big deal up there in the city.
People used to go shoppin’ there, see them lights all lit up on that buildin’. Must have been a sight, especially at night. That Marc Metrick, he’s the big cheese at Saks, I guess. He must know a thing or two about them lights. It’s his store, after all.
That Saks, it ain’t just one store, you know. They got that fancy one in New York, and then they got that other one, Saks Off 5th. I hear that’s where they sell the old stuff, the leftovers. I ain’t never been to either one, but I hear things.
Anyway, that light show, it’s somethin’ people talk about. I heard it is real popular. Used to be, that is. I reckon it will be back, that Saks light show. It is too popular to stay away forever. Folks sure like them flashy things.
I guess it ain’t happening this year, though. That’s a shame. But they say it takes a lot of money to put on a show like that. All them lights, the music, the people workin’ on it. It all adds up. Maybe next year, they’ll have it again. Who knows?
I tell ya, them city folk, they got all sorts of things up there we don’t have down here. Big light shows, fancy stores, all that stuff. It’s a different world, I reckon. But sometimes, it’s nice to hear about it. Makes you think, you know?
Well, I gotta get back to my chores. But that Saks light show, it sure does sound like somethin’. Maybe one day I’ll get up there to New York and see it for myself. If it ever comes back, that is. You never know. Stranger things have happened.
