Okay, so I wanted to share this little experiment I did recently. It all started when I stumbled upon this “Every Kiss Begins With Kay” commercial. You know, the one from Kay Jewelers? I had watched it for so long and decided to see how I could recreate it.

First, I watched the commercial like a hundred times. It’s short, catchy, and all about love and shiny things. The slogan, “Every Kiss Begins With Kay,” is pretty famous, and I found out it’s been around since 1985. That’s like, forever in advertising years. It was really popular back then. They made a new commercial in 2023. It plays a song by LNIS and Nick Connors, called “Here For The Holiday.”
Then, I started digging into why this slogan is such a big deal. Apparently, it changed the game for Kay Jewelers, making them the number one jewelry store in America. The commercial kind of makes you think that if you buy something sparkly from Kay, you’re gonna get a kiss. Smart, right?
I decided to test this out. Not exactly the way you might think, though. I didn’t go out and buy a diamond ring. Instead, I focused on the whole “kiss” part. I wanted to see if there was a pattern, like, do people really start with a “K” sound when they’re about to kiss someone?
So, I started observing people. Not in a creepy way, just casually noticing when couples were about to have a moment. And guess what? Most of the time, there was no “K” sound involved. It was all pretty random. Sometimes they’d say sweet nothings, sometimes they’d just go for it. In this process, I recorded the sounds before kissing.
- First recorded sound: “You’re so beautiful.”
- Second recorded sound: “I love you so much.”
- Third recorded sound: “Kiss me.”
I tried this out with my partner too. I’d randomly throw in a “Kay” before trying to kiss them, just to see their reaction. It was pretty funny, actually. They were like, “What’s with the ‘Kay’?” It definitely didn’t lead to more kisses, but it did lead to some laughs. They knew that I was doing this test for fun.

My Little Conclusion
So, what did I learn from all this? Well, “Every Kiss Begins With Kay” is a super catchy slogan, and it’s probably helped sell a lot of jewelry. But in real life, kisses don’t really start with “Kay.” They start with feelings, a look, or maybe just the right moment. It’s more about the connection between two people than a letter of the alphabet. But still, it was a fun little experiment. It made me think about how powerful advertising can be and how it can sometimes make us believe things that aren’t exactly true. And hey, it gave me and my partner a good laugh, which is always a win.
