Okay, so I saw this hairstyle, the “Pamela Anderson updo,” and I just had to try it. I mean, who doesn’t want to look like a 90s icon, right?

First things first, I washed my hair. You know, you gotta start with a clean canvas. They say the secret to that volume she’s got is all in the wash. I made sure to use a volumizing shampoo and conditioner, hoping to get that same kind of lift.
After washing it, I rough-dried my hair with a towel. I didn’t want it dripping, but I also didn’t want it bone dry. Then, I flipped my head upside down and blasted it with the hairdryer, focusing on the roots. I figured that’s where the magic happens. This part was kind of a workout, not gonna lie. My arms were tired!
Once my hair was mostly dry but still a little damp, I flipped back up and started sectioning. This is where it got a little tricky. I tried to follow a picture I found, but let’s just say my hair has a mind of its own. I ended up using a bunch of clips to hold the sections I wasn’t working on.
- Sectioning the top part from the bottom.
- Twisting and pinning sections near the crown of my head.
- Leaving out some pieces around my face.
- Using about a million bobby pins.
Then came the twisting and pinning. I twisted small sections of hair and pinned them near the crown of my head, kind of like I was making a messy bun but higher up. I also made sure to leave out some pieces around my face for that “effortlessly undone” look. This took a while, and I definitely used more than a few bobby pins. Seriously, I think I went through half a pack! I was sticking them everywhere, praying it would hold.
Finishing Touches
To finish it off, I sprayed the whole thing with hairspray – a lot of hairspray. I wanted to make sure it would stay put. And there you have it! My attempt at the Pamela Anderson updo.

It wasn’t perfect, but I think I did okay. It definitely had that messy, voluminous vibe. Maybe next time I’ll use a little less hairspray, my hair is feeling a little stiff. But hey, practice makes perfect, right? It was fun to try something new, even if I looked a little crazy in the process. Maybe I’ll try it again sometime. Or maybe I’ll just stick to my usual ponytail. We’ll see!
