This year, that Halloween, my boy, he say, “Mama, we go to Kobe!” I say, Kobe? What that? He say, “It’s a place, far away, lots of folks go there for Halloween.” I never been, but I say, okay, let’s go see what this Halloween Kobe is all about.

We get there, and boy, it’s a sight. People all dressed up, like them fancy ghosts and goblins. Not like back home, where we just put on old sheets. These folks, they go all out. They call it “cosplay,” my boy told me. Fancy word for dressing up, I reckon.

They got this thing, see, Halloween in Kobe, it’s a big deal. Lots of folks walking around, all happy. I saw many kids, all painted up like little monsters. Cute, but kinda spooky, too. They had these orange buckets, going around, asking for candy. I gave them some. I’m a softie like that. Reminds me of my younger days, trick-or-treating, although it weren’t nothing like this.

My boy, he was having a grand old time. He likes this Kobe Halloween thing. He took lots of pictures. Said he wanted to remember it all. Good for him, I say. He’s young, let him enjoy it. This old lady, she’s just happy to see him happy. And to see all the spooky thing myself, I must say. It was interesting.

They do all sorts of things there, not just dressing up. My boy, he told me ’bout these “zombie runs.” Sounds crazy, don’t it? People running around, pretending to be zombies. I don’t get it, but the young folks seem to love it. And “flash mobs,” he called ’em. Lots of people, dancing all at once. It’s a sight, I tell ya. Just like those TV shows we watch.

We didn’t do no zombie running, thank goodness. But we saw a lot. We went to this place, lots of people, all crossing the street. He called it a crossing. Big and busy, like nothing I ever seen. They say it’s the busiest place in the world. Can you believe that? We are just there to enjoy the Kobe Halloween parade. People are cheering and screaming for those in the parade. They sure know how to celebrate.

Back home, we got pumpkins. We carve ’em up, put a candle inside. Makes ’em look spooky. They do that here, too. And they pick apples, go through these corn mazes. Sounds fun, but this old lady, she ain’t getting lost in no corn maze! Maybe when I was younger, but not now.

They got all these crafts, too. Making things with flowers, decorating boxes for treats. Not like back home, where we just use old pillowcases. I guess they are more creative when it comes to Halloween Kobe parade. They sure make it a huge event.

My boy, he says, “Mama, this is the best Halloween in Kobe ever!” Made me happy to hear that. He’s a good boy. We don’t have much, but we got each other. And we got to see this crazy Halloween thing in Kobe. Something to tell the folks back home, that’s for sure.

I reckon, this Halloween thing, it’s different everywhere. Back home, it’s simple. Here in Kobe, it’s a big party. Everyone has lots of fun. It’s good to see, even for an old lady like me. Maybe I’ll even dress up next year. Who knows? Maybe I’ll be a ghost, or a witch. Wouldn’t that be something?

I guess folks just want to be something else sometimes. They want to wear masks and be creative. And I think there is nothing wrong with that. And everyone sure loves to have fun. Halloween in Kobe is good for the folks here. We had fun. I will tell my friends about it.

My boy said there is another place where lots of people celebrate Halloween. He said it is called Shibuya, or something. Maybe one day we will go there, too. But Kobe Halloween is sure a good start. It was surely a special day.

And there were lots of food there. I like the food. I tried some food there. Sweet ones and spicy ones. I cannot remember their names but they were good. I think Halloween Kobe food is very interesting. My boy also bought me a cute keychain. I will keep it. I will remember this trip.

We stayed there for a few days. It was a bit rainny and the sky was not very clear. But everyone was still having fun. They do not care about the weather. They just want to enjoy their Halloween in Kobe. Rain cannot stop them.

So yeah, that’s my story about Halloween Kobe. It’s something else, ain’t it? A whole different world. But you know what? People are people, no matter where you go. They like to have fun, dress up, be silly. And that’s alright. It was a good trip. I am happy my boy took me. I will never forget it.
