Okay, so, I’ve been seeing these crazy shoes all over the internet, right? They’re called “Hot Cheeto Shoes,” and they’re basically sneakers that look like they’ve been dipped in Cheeto dust. I’m not gonna lie, I was super curious, so I decided to make my own. Here’s how it went down.
First, I grabbed a pair of plain white sneakers from my closet. Nothing fancy, just some basic kicks I didn’t mind messing up. Then, I went to the grocery store and bought the biggest bag of Xxtra Flamin’ Hot Cheetos I could find. The packaging mentioned some “Scoville rating” of 50, which I guess means they’re pretty spicy.
Crushing and Mixing
Back home, I dumped the Cheetos into a big zip-lock bag and started crushing them. I used a rolling pin, but you could use anything heavy, really. I crushed them until they were basically powder. It was a bit messy, but kind of fun.
Next, I needed something to make the Cheeto dust stick to the shoes. I found some fabric glue in my craft box, and that seemed to do the trick. I mixed the Cheeto powder with the glue until it formed a thick paste. It looked kind of gross, but I was committed at this point.
Applying the Mixture
Now came the tricky part. I started applying the Cheeto-glue mixture to the shoes using a small paintbrush. I tried to be careful, but it was tough to get an even coat. Some parts of the shoes ended up with more Cheeto dust than others. The back strap I left alone, figured it would be better to have some adjustable part.
- Used a paintbrush to apply the mixture.
- Tried to spread it evenly.
- Left the back strap untouched for adjustability.
After I covered both shoes, I let them dry for a whole day. I figured they needed plenty of time for the glue to set properly. I found a spot in my garage, away from where my cat could get to them. She’s curious about everything and I didn’t want her ending up with Cheeto paws.
The Final Look
The next day, I checked on the shoes. They were dry, and the Cheeto dust was surprisingly well-stuck. They definitely looked like Hot Cheeto shoes! The color was a fiery blend, which was kind of cool. I even thought about wearing them to the PUMA flagship store in New York City, which I read had some Cheetos sneakers. It was a fun experiment, and the shoes are surprisingly comfortable. They’re thicker in the sole than I thought, sort of like platform shoes, and they’re actually pretty shock-absorbing. These shoes are a breath of fresh air, you know?
So yeah, that’s my Hot Cheeto shoe adventure. It was a weird, messy, but ultimately fun project. Would I recommend it? Sure, why not! Just be prepared to get your hands (and maybe your shoes) a little dirty.
