Okay, so, I wanted to add a lining to this leather purse I’ve been working on. It’s a pretty nice purse, but the inside was just raw leather, and I wanted something a bit softer and, you know, nicer-looking on the inside.

First, I did some digging around to see what other folks have done. Turns out, lots of people add linings to their bags, and it’s totally doable. Some suggested using fabric glue for small fixes, but since I was doing the whole inside, I knew I’d be stitching. As for what to use, cotton canvas seemed like a good bet. It’s tough and all, but a bit of a pain to sew by hand. But hey, I don’t have a sewing machine, so hand-sewing it is!
I went ahead and got myself some pigskin leather for the lining. It felt pretty good, and I figured it would look nice with the leather of the purse. It’s supposed to be used for lining, so why not?
- Getting the lining ready: I carefully measured the inside of my purse and cut the pigskin leather to match, leaving a little extra just in case. Better to have too much than too little, right?
- Stitching time: This was the longest part. I started stitching the lining to the inside edges of the purse. Slow and steady wins the race, as they say. I made sure my stitches were tight and secure, using a saddle stitch to make the lining strong.
- Almost there: Once the lining was all stitched in, I trimmed off any excess leather and checked for any loose stitches.
And voila! My purse now has a nice, soft pigskin lining. It looks so much better on the inside, and I’m pretty happy with how it turned out. It was a bit of work, especially the hand-sewing, but totally worth it in the end. Now my purse looks nice and proper, both outside and inside!
