Yesterday, I found a bag in my closet that I hadn’t used in ages. It was tucked away in a dark corner, and when I pulled it out, I noticed something was off. The bag looked a bit discolored, and there was this weird, musty smell. Yep, you guessed it – mold.

First things first, I took the bag outside because I didn’t want those mold spores spreading around my house. Then I grabbed a plastic bag and put the moldy bag inside it. I sealed it up tight, making sure nothing was going to escape.

Now, for the next step, I cleared out some space in my freezer. I know it sounds weird, but hear me out. I placed the sealed bag with the moldy bag inside the freezer. From what I’ve heard, freezing can kill mold, so I left it in there for a few days. It’s a waiting game.

  • Put the moldy bag in a plastic bag.
  • Seal the plastic bag tightly.
  • Place it in the freezer for several days.

After a few days, I took the bag out of the freezer. I threw away the outer plastic bag immediately. Then, I took a damp cloth and carefully wiped down the moldy bag. I made sure to get into all the nooks and crannies where mold likes to hide.

I also read somewhere that sometimes backpacks get really dirty and can have mold from old lunches and stuff. And I remembered someone saying that leather bags can get moldy if you don’t clean them for a long time. I figured it was worth a shot to try and save my bag.

So, that’s what I did. It’s not a fun process, but if you ever find yourself with a moldy bag, you might want to give this method a try. It’s better than just throwing the bag away, especially if it’s one you really like. Just remember to be careful and take it step by step.

Result

Honestly, after all that, the bag looked a lot better. The musty smell was gone, and the discoloration was barely noticeable. It’s not perfect, but it’s definitely usable again. I’ll be keeping a closer eye on my bags from now on, though. No more dark corners for them!
