Okay, so the other day I was browsing this website, and I stumbled upon this video magazine, “Japanese Video Magazine No. 8.” I thought, “Why not give it a shot?” So, I started digging around to find it.

First, I searched for it on some of those retro magazine websites. I found a bunch of high-resolution scans of old Japanese video game magazines, which was cool, but not exactly what I was looking for. But it gave me a good idea of the style and vibe of those publications.
Looking for Clues
Then, I started reading through some articles about other Japanese video magazines to get some context. I read about this one called “Video Salon” that had articles on EDIUS 8 and something called a GV Browser. It was interesting, and I learned that these magazines often had supplements with even more detailed content. I found a review of something called “Avid Liquid” in a Japanese videographer’s magazine. That sounded more like it!
More Searching
I kept searching, and I came across some internet archives. There was this one from 1988, and I opened it up. It had over a hundred pages, but the text was all scanned, so I couldn’t really search through it properly. It was a bit of a dead end, but it was still fun to see how they were formatted.
Diving into Japanese Magazines
I decided to read up on Japanese magazines in general. I found out they cover a wide range of topics, from business and politics to fashion and entertainment. I even looked at some customer reviews for adult magazines to see what people look for in those kinds of publications.
Then, because the magazine I was after was related to video games, I checked out a list of video game magazines published in Japan. It had nineteen entries, and that gave me some more keywords to search with.
The “Famitsu” Lead
One of the entries was “Famitsu,” which seemed to be a big name in Japanese video game magazines. I learned that it’s been around since the late 1980s and has different versions for different gaming consoles. This was a solid lead!
Putting It All Together
Finally, after all that digging and reading, I put together everything I had learned. I combined the information about the magazine’s style, the topics it might cover, and the names of similar publications. I used all that to refine my search, and guess what? I finally found it! “Japanese Video Magazine No. 8” was right there, waiting for me. I downloaded it, and I’ve been watching it.
It was a bit of a journey, but I enjoyed the process. It was like being a digital detective, piecing together clues from different sources. And the best part is, I got to experience a piece of Japanese video game history!
I just wanted to share my experience. Hope you all find it interesting.
