Okay, so, I’ve been needing a new wallet for a while now. My old one was, like, literally falling apart. So I started looking around, and I really wanted something small, you know? Something that could fit in my pocket easily, but still hold all my important stuff. That’s when I decided to make a small zip wallet.

First, I looked at a bunch of different wallets online. I saw some for around $20, even some brand-name ones, but honestly, none of them really clicked with me. Plus, I kind of wanted to try making something myself. I remembered seeing those quilted cotton wallets, and they looked pretty cool.
So, I went to the craft store, and let me tell you, picking out fabric is a whole thing! I finally settled on this cute patterned fabric and some matching lining. I also grabbed a zipper, of course. I figured a zip-around would be more secure than just a fold-over.
Then came the actual making part. I dusted off my old sewing machine – haven’t used that thing in ages! I found a simple pattern online, which was basically just a few rectangles. I cut out the fabric pieces, making sure to add a little extra for seam allowances. Pinning everything together was a bit of a pain, but I managed.
Next, I started sewing. It wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be. The hardest part was probably attaching the zipper. I had to rip out the seams a couple of times, but I finally got it in straight.
- Sewing the lining to the outer fabric was easier.
- I left a small opening so I could turn the whole thing right side out.
- Then, I just had to sew up that opening, and voila!
I also added a few card slots inside. I just folded some fabric and sewed them in. It’s not perfect, but it works! It can hold like 9 cards I think, which is more than enough for me.

The finished wallet is super cute and exactly what I wanted. It’s small enough to fit in my pocket, but it holds all my cards and cash. And the zipper keeps everything safe and sound. I’m pretty proud of myself, to be honest. I might even make a few more as gifts!
My Takeaway
It took an afternoon, but now I have a custom-made wallet. It was a pretty fun project. I used a sewing machine for mine, but you could totally do this by hand if you wanted to. Plus, I can tell my friends that I made it myself! And, I saved myself like $20. Not bad, right?
