Alright, so, I got this idea the other day to mess around with some makeup looks from way back when – we’re talking 2009. Yeah, I know, it feels like a lifetime ago, but I thought it would be fun to see what kind of face I could pull off using those old trends.
First, I dug around online, you know, on Pinterest and those fashion sites to see what was hot back then. I found some pictures of models, like Jourdan Dunn, and some of those old MAC ads. Man, those mineralize eyeshadows were the bomb! I used to be obsessed with those. Anyway, I made a little mood board of the looks I wanted to try.

Then, I raided my own makeup stash, and let me tell you, it was like a time capsule in there. I found some oldies but goodies, and some stuff I totally forgot I had. I also hit up a store to grab a few things that I was missing and that I remembered were big back then. It felt like such a throwback just shopping for them.
- Started with a clean face, obviously. Then I primed everything – gotta have that smooth base, right?
- Next, I went in with foundation. Back in ’09, it was all about that matte, full-coverage look. So, I layered that stuff on. Not gonna lie, it felt a bit heavy compared to what I usually wear nowadays.
- Then came the eyes. I remembered everyone was rocking those smoky eyes, so I picked up a dark grey shadow and blended that all over my lids. I added a bit of shimmer in the inner corners – gotta have that pop, you know?
- I lined my eyes with black liner, top and bottom. And of course, I smudged it out a bit for that sultry vibe.
- Mascara was next, and lots of it. I coated my lashes like three times. Fluttery lashes were a must back then.
For the cheeks, I grabbed a peachy blush – another ’09 staple – and dusted that on the apples of my cheeks. And for lips, I went with a nude gloss. I remember everyone was wearing that back in the day.
Honestly, looking at myself in the mirror, I felt like I was transported back in time. It was a fun little experiment, and it definitely reminded me of how much makeup trends have changed over the years. Would I wear this look out today? Probably not, but it was fun to revisit the past, even if it was just for a little while.
