Alright, so I had a big pile of clothes sitting around that I didn’t wear anymore. I thought, why not try to make a few bucks off them, and Buffalo Exchange is the go-to place, right? But then I started thinking, “What if they don’t take everything? What will I do with the rest of it?” I figured I could donate them, but a question popped up: does Buffalo Exchange take donations, or would I have to make another trip somewhere else?
So, I did a little digging. From what I found online, it seems like Buffalo Exchange might have some sort of donation program. Something about “Tokens for Bags,” but it wasn’t super clear. I decided the best way to find out was just to go there myself and see what the deal was.
I packed up all my clothes, the ones I thought might sell and the ones I wasn’t so sure about, and headed over to my local Buffalo Exchange. When I got there, I hauled my bags inside and waited in line. Finally, it was my turn. I explained to the person at the counter that I had some clothes to sell and some I was okay with donating if they weren’t selected.
Turns out, they don’t take direct donations. Bummer! But the “Tokens for Bags” thing is real. Basically, instead of taking a bag, you can take a token, and they donate 5 cents to a local charity. Not bad, but it didn’t really solve my immediate problem of having a bunch of unwanted clothes.
Here’s what I ended up doing:
- Sold what I could: First, they went through my clothes and picked out the items they wanted to buy. I made a little bit of cash, which was nice.
- Donated the rest elsewhere: I took the remaining clothes that Buffalo Exchange didn’t take and dropped them off at a donation bin I know of nearby.
My two cents
It would be super convenient if Buffalo Exchange took donations directly, but I get that it’s not their main thing. If you’re like me and thinking about doing the same, be prepared to take your rejected clothes somewhere else to donate. It’s a bit of extra work, but hey, at least the clothes are going to a good cause, and you might make a little money in the process, just like I did!
