Alright, so I recently had to deal with a return at Bloomingdale’s, and let me tell you, it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. I figured I’d share my experience in case any of you run into a similar situation. It all started when I bought this fancy dress online for a wedding. It looked amazing in the photos, but when it arrived, it just didn’t fit right.

First, I went straight to Bloomingdale’s website to get their return policy. Apparently, I had 90 days from the shipment date to return the dress, which was a relief. And it said the returns are free for online orders.
- Checked the return policy online – 90 days to return, phew!
- Found out that they offer free returns for online orders, which is awesome.
I saw I could return it by mail or go to a store. Because I needed other stuff for the wedding, I decided to go in person. I did not register an account when I placed the order. So the next step I took was to register an account online in order to get an instant refund.
Then I drove to the nearest Bloomingdale’s, dress in hand, along with the order confirmation email on my phone. I walked up to the customer service desk, feeling a bit nervous, but the lady there was super friendly.
- Decided to return the dress in-store because I was in a hurry.
- Headed to the customer service desk with the dress and order confirmation.
I told her I wanted to return the dress and showed her my order. She asked for my ID, which makes sense, since I didn’t have the receipt, I just registered online. After I gave her my ID, she scanned the dress, looked up my order, and that was that!
I was actually surprised, but it seemed without a receipt, you get the lowest selling price in the last 180 days.

I chose to get an instant refund. And I just got it. It was pretty fast. The whole thing took maybe 15 minutes. Overall, it was a pretty smooth process. Bloomingdale’s gets a thumbs up from me for their return policy and customer service.
- Explained the situation to the customer service rep.
- Got store credit since I didn’t want to wait for a refund to my card.
- Walked out of the store, crisis averted!
My takeaway?
Don’t sweat it if you need to return something to Bloomingdale’s. Just make sure you do it within 90 days, and if you are returning without a receipt, have your ID ready.
