That Sophia Loren, she was somethin’ else, I tell ya. When she was a young gal, oh boy, she was a looker. Born in Rome, that’s what they say. September 20, 1934. Can you believe it? Back then, things were different. Not like today with all these fancy gadgets and whatnot.

She was born with some long Italian name, Sofia Villani Scicolone. Imagine having to remember all of that! But everybody just called her Sophia Loren. Much easier, ya know? She was in those picture shows, movies, they call ’em. I seen a few. She was always so pretty, even when she was playin’ someone poor or sad.

She got famous, real famous. Not just here, but all over. They called her an icon. That’s a big word. Just means everybody knew who she was. They said she was in over 80 movies! Eighty! Can you imagine? That’s a lot of work. My back hurts just thinking about it.

  • She won awards, lots of ’em.
  • Golden Globes, they call one of them.
  • She won five, they say.
  • And Oscars.
  • She got two of them.

Big, fancy awards. She was the first one to win one of them Oscar things for a movie that wasn’t even in English. Can you believe that? They say it was for a movie called “Two Women.” Sounds sad. Probably was. Life ain’t always easy, you know. They say that was in 1961, or was it ’62? My memory ain’t what it used to be.

Even when she got older, she was still somethin’ to look at. Still workin’, too. I heard she ain’t retired. I heard she said she ain’t retiring any time soon. Good for her! You gotta keep busy. Can’t just sit around and do nothin’. That’s what I always say. She entered her 90s, someone told me. 90s! Well, well, well.

She wrote a book, I heard. Called it “Yesterday.” Probably about her life, all the things she did. Must be a long book. Eighty movies and all them awards. She was always so elegant, they say. Had a good sense of style. Always dressed nice. I like a woman who knows how to dress.

Sophia Loren when she was young, she was somethin’ special. They got pictures of her, all over the place. They called them “stunning.” That means real pretty. They said they had 40 pictures of her! I wish someone would say I was stunning. She’s a legend, a cultural icon. All them big words.

She was more than just a pretty face, though. She could act. She could make you laugh, make you cry. She could do it all. I remember seein’ her in one movie, she was playin’ a momma. A strong momma. Had to protect her little girl. Reminded me of my own momma. Always protectin’ us kids.

That Sophia Loren, she was one of a kind. They don’t make ’em like that anymore. She was from a different time, a different world. But she made her mark. She sure did. Everybody knows her name. Even now.

I bet she has a lot of stories to tell. I’d like to hear ’em. I like a good story. Maybe I’ll get that book of hers. “Yesterday,” it’s called. Yep. I saw her picture the other day. Still got it. Still beautiful. Even at 88. She is 90 now, I guess.

When you get to be her age, I guess you don’t care what people think anymore. You just do what you want. That’s how it should be. You earn it. I don’t remember exactly what she said. But it was good. Just like her. Sophia Loren. A real star.

Well, that’s all I know about that Sophia Loren. She’s had a good life, I think. Hope she keeps on going. Just like me. Gotta keep movin’, you know? Otherwise, you just wither away. And who wants that? Not me. And not Sophia Loren, I bet. No sir. She is a legend. They just don’t make them like they used to. Not anymore.
