I got a new task some days ago, which is about innovation in the supply chain. So I did some research online first to see what other people say about it.

Top Ways to Improve Innovation in Supply Chain in 2024

Some guys say it will help a company find good employees and keep them. Some think it’s to keep the clients happy. Well, it makes sense.

So I started to try some ways. You know, every company wants to be unique. That’s the key to being successful.

Brainstorming

  • First thing first, I read some articles online. I found one talking about the “kaizen” way. It’s a way to make things better, step by step. It’s used a lot in making cars and stuff, but the article says we can also use it for other kinds of work, too.

  • I tried to talk to everyone in our team. Not just the big bosses, but everyone. You never know who’s gonna come up with a great idea. We used some tools, too. Some are just simple apps that help us write down and share ideas. Other tools are more fancy, helping us see the whole supply chain like a big map.

Experimenting

  • Then we tried a few new things. We picked some small projects to test our ideas. Like, we tried using a new computer program to track where our stuff is in real-time. It was a bit messy at first, but it helped us see problems we didn’t know we had. Like, one time, a truck got stuck, but nobody noticed until much later. With the new program, we would have known right away.

  • We also tried talking to our customers more. Not just when they buy something, but also later. Some top companies are using new tech like IoT and AI to do that. We don’t have that fancy stuff, so we used regular surveys and phone calls. It’s a bit old-fashioned, but it still works. We got some good ideas from them, like changing the packaging to make it easier to open.

Implementing

  • After trying things out, we picked the best ideas and started using them for real. We’re still learning, but things are looking good.

  • For example, we decided to use that computer program for tracking stuff all the time now. It’s not perfect, but it’s much better than before. We can see where everything is, and we can plan better.

Overall, I think trying new things in the supply chain is important. It’s not always easy, but it’s worth it. We’re still figuring things out, but I’m happy with what we’ve done so far. We made things better, and that’s what matters. I will keep trying and learning. That’s the only way to be better.
