Okay, so, I’ve been experimenting with nail colors lately, trying to find what really pops with my red hair. It’s been a journey, let me tell you!

I started with a classic, Scarlet Sweetheart. I mean, red on red, right? It felt bold, maybe a bit too much for every day, but definitely a statement. This color has been making the rounds for a while, and I can see why. It’s vibrant and eye-catching.
- Tried on a Scarlet Sweetheart shade.
- Felt a bit too bold for daily wear.
- Definitely makes a statement!
Then, I moved on to something a bit darker, Black Cherry. I heard it went viral in 2023, so I was curious. It’s this deep, rich color that’s almost black but with a hint of red. It felt more sophisticated, more me, I guess. It’s like the grown-up version of the bright red.
- Experimented with Black Cherry.
- Heard it was a big deal last year.
- Felt sophisticated and mature.
Diving Deeper into Reds
Of course, I couldn’t just stop at two reds. I wanted to explore the whole spectrum. I remembered reading somewhere that redheads should go for primary reds or blue-toned reds and avoid the pink or orange ones. So, I picked up a few bottles from that nail polish brand, OPI.
- Got my hands on OPI Redheads Ahead – how fitting is that name?
- Also tried OPI Red and OPI Malaga Wine.
- Stuck to primary and blue-toned reds as suggested.
Redheads Ahead was a fun one. It’s a bright, true red. Then there was OPI Red, which is just as classic as it sounds. Malaga Wine was deeper, more like the Black Cherry but with a bit more red in it. They all looked pretty good, to be honest. I think the key is to match the shade of red to what you’re wearing. Like, a bright red dress with a similar polish, or a darker dress with a burgundy shade. Makes sense, right?
Branching Out
But I didn’t want to limit myself to just reds. I’ve got warm tones in my skin, so I tried some corals and oranges. And you know what? They looked pretty good! There was this one rose gold color that I absolutely loved. It was warm and shimmery, and it just went so well with my hair and skin.

- Tried some coral and orange shades.
- Fell in love with a rose gold color.
- Warm tones complement red hair surprisingly well.
Someone also told me to try dark browns. I was skeptical at first, but they were right. A deep, cool brown creates this awesome contrast with my lighter hair and skin. It’s like the green, it just works. I made sure to avoid browns with too much red in them, though. No Auburn or Hickory for me.
- Gave dark browns a shot.
- Avoided browns with reddish tones.
- Found that cool, deep browns create a nice contrast.
So yeah, that’s been my nail color adventure so far. I’ve learned a lot, and I’m still experimenting. It’s all about finding what makes you feel good, right?
