Alright, so I’ve been messing around with makeup, trying different things, you know, just experimenting. Today, I wanted to figure out what kind of primer to use with powder foundation. It’s been a bit of a puzzle, honestly.
First off, I started digging around to see what others were saying. Some folks online were like, “Water-based primer is the way to go with powder foundation.” They said something about matching the base of your primer with the base of your foundation – water with water, silicone with silicone. Makes sense, right? But I was still not sure what to pick so I kept looking.
Then I remembered I had a few primers lying around. One was this Smashbox Photo Focus Primer, the silicone one. People online were hyping it up for powder foundations, so I thought, why not give it a shot?
I also came across this one called Touch in Sol Feel like Honey Moon Skin Base. I decided to put it on one side of my face, just to see how it would work out.
Now, on the other side, I used the Urban Decay All Nighter Face Primer. Heard someone, maybe a makeup artist, saying it’s good for smoothing and hydrating. Sounded promising, so I slapped it on.
- Started by cleaning my face, as usual, gotta get that clean base.
- Then, I applied a bit of the Touch in Sol primer on the left side. It felt kind of smooth, a little different.
- Next, the Urban Decay one went on the right side. This one felt more hydrating, kind of like a moisturizer.
- I let them both sit for a bit. I don’t know, maybe that helps? Then, I dusted some powder foundation over both sides.
Honestly, after wearing it for a while, both sides seemed to hold up okay. The Touch in Sol side felt a bit smoother, maybe? The Urban Decay side was definitely more hydrated.

But here’s the thing, I also read that you can pretty much use whatever primer you want with powder foundation. It’s not like there are strict rules or something. So, I guess it comes down to what feels good on your skin and what kind of look you’re going for.
My Takeaway
It’s all about experimenting and seeing what works for you. I mean, I tried a few different things, and they all had their pros and cons. I’ll probably keep messing around with different combinations because, why not? Makeup is supposed to be fun, right?
