You know, that orchid perfume, that’s a real fancy smell. Smells like them rich folks, I tell ya. I got a whiff of it one time down at the market. Lady was all dressed up, lookin’ like she stepped outta one of them picture shows. And she was wearin’ that orchid perfume. Whew, it was strong!

This smell, it ain’t like the flowers we got growin’ around here. Nope. This one is somethin’ else. Kinda sweet, kinda spicy. Hard to put your finger on it, you know? But it sure does make a statement. Like, “Hey, look at me, I got money!” That’s what that orchid perfume says. This one old fella, used to sell stuff from his truck, he told me they put all kinds of fancy stuff in them perfumes.

I heard them say it’s called “Black Orchid.” Now, why would they call it that? Ain’t never seen a black orchid, have you? Maybe it’s ’cause it’s so fancy, so mysterious, like somethin’ you’d find in one of them jungle movies. They say it’s a Tom Ford perfume. Sounds like a man’s name to me. But, hey, what do I know?

This Tom Ford fella, he must be somethin’ special to make a smell like that. Costs a pretty penny, too, I bet. More than I’d spend on a whole week’s worth of groceries, that’s for sure! But I guess if you got the money, why not, right? I hear it is a perfume for women and men. I don’t know about that. Seems like a lady smell, but my grandson, he wears some fancy smells sometimes. Maybe that’s one of them.

  • Smells expensive
  • Kinda sweet, kinda spicy
  • Makes you think of rich folks
  • They call it “Black Orchid”
  • Made by some fella named Tom Ford

They say it’s the most potent version. Potent, that’s a good word. Means it’s strong, like that moonshine old man Johnson used to make. One whiff and you’re on the floor! This perfume, it ain’t that strong, but it sure does linger. You walk by someone wearin’ it, and you’ll still be smellin’ it hours later. It is an aphrodisiac perfume. I don’t know about all that. But if it makes you feel good, that’s all that matters.

They say this Tom Ford uses some fake smells, but also some real special stuff. Hard to find, they say. That’s probably why it costs so much. Makes it unique and complex, whatever that means. Sounds like a lot of hooey to me, but what do I know about fancy perfumes? I just know it smells good, and it makes me think of that fancy lady at the market.

I reckon there’s all kinds of orchid smells out there. This Black Orchid is just one of ’em. Some might smell like fruit, some like flowers, some like… well, I don’t know what. Maybe even a little musky. That’s what they say. This orchid smell, it ain’t just one thing. It’s like a whole bunch of things all mixed up together. Like a good stew, you know? You got your meat, your potatoes, your carrots, all simmerin’ together to make somethin’ special.

Now, I ain’t sayin’ I’m gonna go out and buy a bottle of that orchid perfume. Like I said, it’s way too expensive for the likes of me. But it’s nice to smell it every once in a while. Reminds me that there’s a whole world out there, beyond these fields and these cows. A world of fancy things and fancy smells.

My granddaughter, she likes them fancy smells. She’s always sprayin’ herself with somethin’ or other. Maybe one day, she’ll get herself a bottle of that Black Orchid perfume. And when she does, I’ll be sure to take a big whiff. Just to remind myself of that fancy lady at the market, and that whole other world out there. They say this one is a classic perfume. I guess that means it’s been around for a while and ain’t going nowhere.

But for now, I’m happy with my plain old soap and water. It might not be fancy, but it gets the job done. And that’s all that really matters, ain’t it? Still, it’s fun to dream about them fancy things sometimes. That orchid perfume, it’s like a little dream in a bottle. A dream of somethin’ more, somethin’ different. And who knows, maybe one day, that dream will come true.
