Today, I tried out a new hairstyle – the ponytail. I’ve always been more of a let-my-hair-down kind of guy, but I figured it was time for a change. Plus, with the weather getting warmer, keeping my hair off my neck seemed like a good idea.

So, I started by brushing my hair back. Sounds simple, right? Well, it kind of is, but getting it smooth was a bit of a task. I don’t have particularly unruly hair, but making sure there were no bumps or stray strands took a few tries. I used a regular brush. I have seen in some materials that using clip-in extensions can make my pony look fuller, but I decided not to use any tools for my first attempt.

Once my hair was brushed back, I tried to figure out where to actually place the ponytail. I remembered something about a “Jawline Rule” – apparently, if you follow the line of your jaw, it helps you find a good spot for the ponytail. I gave it a shot, and it seemed to work okay. I gathered my hair around that point and secured it with a hair tie.

Tie it Up

  • Gather your hair where you want the ponytail to sit.
  • Hold it with one hand.
  • Use the other hand to wrap a hair tie around it a few times.

Putting in the hair tie was another mini-adventure. It kept slipping, and I had to redo it a couple of times. Eventually, I managed to get it in there tight enough that it wouldn’t fall out. To be honest, the whole process was a bit more involved than I expected. It’s not exactly rocket science, but there’s definitely a knack to it. I can see why people practice and get good at this. And I also found that there were many styles of ponytail, which made me a little overwhelmed.

The end result? A pretty decent-looking ponytail, if I do say so myself. It’s not perfect, but it’s a start. I might try a higher one next time, or maybe even one of those messy bun things I’ve seen around. Who knows, maybe I’ll even get some of those clip-in extensions to see if I can get that voluminous look. Overall, it was a fun little experiment. Definitely going to keep playing around with this. It’s always good to switch things up a bit, right?
